Hijee-bie
Cotton fabric, thread
2018

The Hijeebie is a proposed area that works within the confines of the hijab, but uses silly, unnecessary, and superfluous methods of covering. This is a sarcastic call back to the trajectory of the political power of the hijab, and a jab at the existing colonial representation of it. Mine here is a quilt as a nod to the zannie/ harlequin patchwork costume that was historically worn by the dispossessed immigrant worker.
